The White Oak table is an Inheritance Furniture original. We spared neither time nor expense creating a handmade piece that is centered on long-lasting durability and beauty. As an heirloom table, it will host your families' dining experience for generations to come. Made from solid quarter-sawn white oak, we guarantee you will love this table.
Material: Quarter-sawn white oak
Better by design:
Wood naturally changes over time. It swells and shrinks with the changing of the seasons due to humidity variations in your home. While this is normal and expected, it makes solid wood construction challenging and costly. A disregard for this characteristic of wood will manifest as cracks and warps as the wood pulls against the fasteners and glue.
Modern furniture commonly relies on particleboard and veneer construction to avoid this problem, which sacrifices durability for convenience and lower initial cost. These pieces often end up being repeatedly discarded and repurchased, invoking a larger cost over time. We invite you to purchase one extraordinary piece that will last for generations in your home.
About the joinery:
The most important parts of a beautiful table are found in the quality and stability of the unseen supporting joints. While hidden from view, these painstaking details are what set our tables apart. Each hand-turned leg is fitted to the table aprons using the elegant drawbore mortise and tenon joint. This joint, which relies on neither screws nor glue, has been used for centuries, and uses a wooden peg and offset drilled holes to pull the joint tight. Each joint is precisely hand-fitted. Once pounded home, the peg permanently joins the leg and apron.
About the tabletop:
The tabletop is held flat using this same drawbore mortise and tenon method. A "breadboard end" (The two boards sitting perpendicular to the length of the table) caps each end of tabletop, and houses multiple two-inch deep mortises. Two-inch long tenons are fitted into these mortises, and pulled tight with a drawbore pin. These are not glued, in order to allow the seasonal expansion and contraction to occur within the tabletop. The top is then affixed to the base with special clips that allow for small seasonal movements to occur, ensuring it stays flat throughout each year.
Care and Cleaning: To maintain the beauty of your table, we recommend the following:
- Remove dust with a water-dampened cloth.
- Remove fingerprints or dirt with mild soap and water. These contaminants will not harm the finish, but they accumulate on surfaces and dull the original luster.
- As with all fine furniture finishes, avoid using furniture polish, cleaners or dusting sprays that contain silicone, alcohol, ammonia and anything acidic. Exception: We have successfully cleaned with Clorox wipes.
- Clean up water, alcohol and food spills in a timely manner and use placemats & coasters to protect the finish.
About the Finish: The White Oak table has a thin protective coat of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. This leaves a natural look and feel, while adding protection against scratches and moisture.
